Painted Pony - 2 West Saint George Boulevard #22 Tower Building - St. George, UT

 Painted Pony Restaurant

I'm not going to pretend to be someone I'm not. This is not my typical restaurant. My wife and I got a gift card to come here, and we made a fun date of it. And it was fun! It is in a really cool building and has a nice atmosphere. However, I must say that the chairs, tables, decorations, etc, were a little underwhelming for such an expensive restaurant.

It is nice. The staff was very nice and professional.

But it wasn't as "fancy" as a P.F. Changs or a Maggiano's.

You will definitely want a reservation.

As for the Menu, it is interesting to me how every "fancy" restaurant has really interesting entrees.

The entree doesn't come with any sides - no salad, no soup.

I went with the PROSCUITTO WRAPPED FREE RANGE CHICKEN for $34.00

It comes with parsley almond pesto, acorn squash, couscous, and olive brown butter

Again, I don't usually have acorn squash or couscous with my dinner.

The chicken was really tender. The Proscuitto - which is like a thin ham - was pretty much a throwaway. And maybe it's supposed to be. But it was so thin and cooked that it was crunchy and almost like overcooked bacon.

My wife went with the GRASS FED GRILLED TENDERLOIN STEAK - PETITE for $39.00

It comes with garlicky new potatoes, mushroom cream sauce, and asparagus.

Neither of us are really big fans of mushroom and were doubtful if we would like the mushroom cream sauce. The server talked us into it - saying that people will come in just to get the sauce. And it was really delicious - creamy and no mushroom chunks.

The steak was very savory and tasty. The asparagus was very good. The potatoes were quite good also.

We also shared a Raspberry Italian Soda which was pretty delicious! Not a huge portion, but not a bad price, and - again - delicious.

It was a fun splurge for us, but also kind of crazy for someone like me who doesn't eat out "fancy " very often to have picked pretty much the cheapest things on the menu and to have spent almost $100 after taxes and tip.

We did have a good experience, but I honestly would prefer a Texas Roadhouse steak and would have paid less than half the price. The chicken was tender, but again, I am not crazy about the unique things like couscous and acorn squash.

So here is my final analysis:

Taste:   7/10

Speed:  7/10

Quality:  7/10

Cleanliness: 10/10

Value: 5/10
